WOMI is 75 Today
February, 7, 1938, WOMI AM signed on the air. Happy Birthday to us!
The original broadcast was from the Hotel Owensboro at 4th and Frederica. WOMI signed on at 7pm on the 7th and was the seventh radio station in the commonwealth of Kentucky.
Owned by the Messenger-Inquirer, the paper (which at that time was Messenger in the morning and Inquirer in the afternoon) stated “Owensboro is given “Model Radio Station”, but ten days after the first day on air.
You’ve come a long way, baby and still going strong.
I am proud to be a part of it.
According to History.com, here’s what else happened that day.
