Traveling Thru Henderson Via Hwy 60 and U.S. 41? Read This

A contractor for the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) has  scheduled an overpass rehab project on U.S. 60 at the U.S. 41 Henderson North Cloverleaf to start the evening of Friday, June 8.

KYTC District 2 Chief Engineer Kevin McClearn says the U.S. 60 Overpass that crosses U.S. 41 in the middle of the Henderson North Cloverleaf will have severely restricted traffic flow for two 9-day periods – the first for eastbound traffic starting at 7:00 p.m., CDT, Friday, June 8.

“This project will include a new deck overlay and joint work on the overpass,” McClearn said.  “While this overpass carries only a small amount of the 58,000 vehicles that travel ramps around the cloverleaf, we want everyone to be prepared for the detours that will be required,  We want drivers to be thinking about alternate routes they may be able to take to reduce the likelihood of  delays while the detour is in place.”

McClearn said it’s likely a substantial number of motorists will choose to self-detour via other routes, helping to reduce the potential for traffic snarls.  Motorists traveling US 60 immediately west of the interchange will not be allowed to make left-hand turns during the work to further reduce the likelihood of construction congestion.

The main impact on traffic will be for motorists who travel US 60  through the middle of the US 60/US 41 Bypass Interchange.  The eastbound lane across the overpass will be closed for nine days.  Once completed, the westbound lanes through the middle of the interchange will be closed for nine days starting Friday, June 22.

Two marked detours will be established. During the eastbound closure traffic will detour via KY 351/Zion Road.  During the westbound closures traffic will detour via Marywood Drive, a city street. McClearn said a city street is not normally used for a state detour, but there was no viable alternative in this area, and the city approved the use of Marywood Drive.
