Otters Swept in Beach Bums Series – Remain Tied for Second in East Division

The Otters are swept in a series for the first time this season, but manage to stay in a three-way for second place in the East Division thanks to losses from the Lake Erie Crushers and the Washington Wild Things.

Evansville found themselves behind the proverbial 8-ball early in Thursday's game when the Beach Bums scored two runs in the bottom of the first after a single from first baseman Yazy Arbello brought in outfielder Jeff DeBlieux who reached first on a walk earlier in the inning. A sacrifice fly from Jovan Rosa scored Scott Woodward who reached based on an infield single and throwing error.

Otters All-Star third baseman Shayne Houck tied things up in the third with an RBI double which would turn out to be the only runs the team scored for the remainder of the game. A two-run homer in the bottom of the 10th by Arbello gave Traverse City the win.

Fortunately for the Otters, they weren't the only team in the East Division that had an off night. The other top teams in the division (Southern Illinois, Lake Erie, and Washington) also lost Thursday leaving the standings unchanged with the Miners in the lead, followed by the Otters, the Crushers, and the Wild Things in second at half-game back.

The Otters will look to put the series loss behind them as their schedule takes them to Rockford for a three-game weekend stand against the Aviators. They return home to Bosse Field on Wednesday for a seven game, five day home stand that begins with a double-header against the Windy City Thunderbolts. It will be the final home stand of the 2014 regular season.
