It could be the bargin of the decade, for a Mother/Daughter Investment Team. Then again, maybe not. The West Louisville Elementary School Building located at 9661 Kentucky Highway 56 sold today for $93,000. What do you get for $93,000?

The description from Kurtz Auction Company tells the tale:

WEST LOUISVILLE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

  • 10.24 acres with 204.70’ frontage along Highway 56 and 1180.95’ frontage along Cecil Road
  • The building contains 39,284 sq. ft. and consists of two levels
  • Natural gas, county water and electricity serve this site
  • The primary building was constructed in 1940 with additions in 1949, 2001 and 2005
  • The rooftop heating/cooling system can service individual rooms or the entire building.
  • The floor plan includes restrooms on each level, classrooms in the newer rear addition, offices, gymnasium, cafeteria, library, side and rear entrances
  • The overall condition of the school is average to good and the building could be adapted to a retirement facility, community services, church, single-family development and many other possibilities subject to planning and zoning
  • The ballpark in the rear area of the school is being reserved for a period of two years by the Daviess County Parks Department.

The new owners are a mother/daughter team from the West Louisville area. They are Deborah Coomes (Mom) and Jennifer Higdon (daughter). "We hope to turn it into a type of Community Center to help the economic development of the community", said Ms. Coomes shortly after the auction.

She continues,"My daughter has researched the repurposing of old school buildings and we are very comfortable in making this dream become a reality". Ms. Coomes said they are open to any and all suggestions from those wishing to help develop the facility as it begins it's new life.

I hope in the next week or two to have Ms. Coomes and Ms. Higdon on the Joe Lowe Morning Show to discuss their plans. With Maple Mount, Diamond Lake Resort close by as well as a tight knit community the possibilities are endless.
