Monsters On The Ohio This Weekend
It may be close to Halloween but Monsters on the Ohio has nothing to do with ghosts and goblins. The monsters this weekend are monster catfish. Catfish that can weigh in at over 100 lbs. The come out of our Ohio River. Does that make you think twice about swimming or waterskiing?
Aaron Wheatley is the event director and says this is an event that will grow each year. “We have a beautiful Riverfront with English Park perfect for launching the boats but also for a festival. Everybody loves the location and the friendliness of the Owensboro people”, said Wheatley as he continued preparing for this weekends event.
In the past tournaments like this had a major sponsor but this is different. It is mainly local businesses who are friends of mine. Nobody had to pay a ton of money but working together with several smaller businesses we spread out the costs and everbody wins.
Catfish anglers from around the country wil be trying to beat the Kentucky State Record fo rBluecats of 104lbs.
Monsters on the Ohio is a team event with teams consisting of one or two persons. Entry fee is $170.00. Fishing begins at 6:30 a.m. with the official weigh-in at 3 p.m. To help preserve the sport only live fish will be weighed-in and then released after the tournament.
Monsters on the Ohio will be giving away one 8-hour guided trip for two on Lake Wheeler in Alabama with Captain Jason Bridges. The winning team will be drawn after the weigh-in.
Monsters is not just for the Catfish fishermen. English Park will feature booths with food, sport and fishing information, Inflatable games for kids and great food and drink.
