I'm kind of overwhelmed right now. When your dad is a licensed undertaker and funeral director, like mine was, you learn early in life about death. You have those conversations sooner than others. It's helped me be more prepared through the years.

But sometimes preparedness is no match for what has occurred to me very recently. In the last two and a half weeks, eight people I know--or knew, I guess--have passed away.

So, yes, it's been overwhelming.

And I didn't even know this young man, Taylor Widmer, but I was no less saddened to learn of his passing.

From what I've read and seen, he meant a great deal to a great many people--people who showed just how much he meant to them as they lined Highway 54 on a rainy Monday afternoon as his funeral procession passed by.

People grieve and pay tribute in so many different ways.

Clearly, there are times when one takes the form of the other.
