-by Katie Albers, Wife, Mother, and Librarian who is eager to notice God in the little things.

Every summer, my husband fusses about the clover and other weeds that pop up in our grass.  He argues that they attract bees and wasps.  I declare the bees and wasps to be God’s creation and useful pollinators, and I refuse to allow him to spray weed killer.  Often, I end my debate with a jab at him about how he is just scared of being stung.

Well, the joke is on me because I am the one who has been stung by wasps already twice this summer.  One of those times was while walking barefoot in the clover!

Though these encounters were painful, I still hold to the belief that God uses even the bees and wasps to fulfill His will on earth.  I needed to learn the lesson that I should wear shoes when walking in the grass.  After warning my own children about the dangers and yet countless times going sans footwear myself, God finally used that wasp to discipline me.

Hebrews 12:11  “No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it.”

After that painful sting, I could get mad at that wasp and feel sorry for myself, but instead, I chose to notice God in these moments.  I believe that God is in these details as much as the big events.  I believe He whispers to us all day long and sometimes He has to shout.  I am so thankful that God advised me of something as common as putting on my shoes.  Now, each time I slip on my clogs to wander in the garden, I have one more reminder of the righteousness and peace that comes from training from our attentive God.
