Stewart, I do not know about NRA representation at funerals , but the NRA has a Law Enforcement (LE) Activities Division .It was founded specifically to provide the LE community with a certified and standard LE firearm instructor training program. So far 50,000 firearms instructors have been trained and there are currently over 12,000 certified instructors nationwide. The LE division sponsors the Competitive Police Pistol Combat Program to improve skill and competence in marksmanship and also sponsors the National Police Shooting Championships.
It also offers grants and support for development of LE shooting ranges.
There is a $25,000 life insurance benefit for the survivors of any LE officer who is feloniously killed in the line of duty, if the LE officer is a NRA member at the time of death. LE membership is $20 a year.
Scholarships are offered for children of LE officers who are NRA members, instructor liability insurance, body armor discounts and more.
And , as to the police being "out-gunned" , whose fault is that?
If you can blame that on the NRA then you really have drunk the purple Kool-Aid.
If you would research NYPD armaments you would find that in their arsenal there are "select fire" (automatic) weapons, submachine guns, armored vehicles and 50 caliber rifles. They also have helicopters, about 40,000 policemen and women and thousands of cars.

Thanks for the clarification. I did mean "semi-automatic."
And I feel semi-semi-safer being reminded my assailant might get a cramp in his trigger finger and leave a few witnesses standing.

I know the NRA will always be a well-funded and powerful lobby. You have to be a filthy-rich politician like Michael Bloomberg to stand up to them. The New York mayor recently described how he personally notifies the widows when a cop is out-gunned and killed. He attends all the funerals, but has yet to see a rep from the NRA pay their respects to a fallen officer. I suppose they're just too busy with all their shmoozing and vote-buying.

Hi Stewart ,
You repeated a common mistake of those who are anti-gun.
You state that "Tom and Harry's Sporting Goods offers a wide assortment of automatic rifles" . This is not the case .
Automatic weapons are those that , with one pull of the trigger will fire more than one shot. These weapons are strictly controlled by the NFA , (National Firearms Act ) , of 1934 , and also as amended , by the Gun Control Act ,(GCA) , of 1968. You may check the website of the Bureau of Alcohol , Tobacco and Firearms for verification .
Automatic weapons are only handled by a few dealers.
I think these weapons are called "Class 3" weapons, but I am not sure of that.
If you ever would like to see automatic weapons in use, I invite you to go to the Knob Creek Machine Gun Shoot , south of Louisville , put on each April and October.
Call me and we can go together.
It really is a hoot.
You should Google this and see what it is about .
I think you probably intended to say "semiautomatic " rifles, but intentional misuse of the term "automatic" is not only incorrect but misleading and , to those who know better, paints you in an unfavorable light.

No we should not allow the Government to regulate or even make it harder to be “Stupid”. The Government even says they are not responsible for our Personnel Safety, Warren v. District of Columbia (444 A.2d. 1, D.C. Ct. of Ap. 1981) . I can agree with regulations such as “food safety inspections, nutrition labels and regular aircraft maintenance” and other laws and regulations that protect the Public “at Large”. When it comes to the Government protecting us from ourselves it oversteps its boundaries.
There is a big difference in what People consider “Stupid and “Fun”, one person’s “Fun” can be another person’s “Stupid”, trying to tell someone else what they can or cannot do takes away their Liberty, Life Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness is guaranteed in the documents that founded this Country. Those same documents restrict the Government not the People. That is what keeps it from being “ludicrous for “Tom & Harry’s Sporting Goods” to offer a wide assortment of automatic rifles and 33-shot handguns” and makes it ludicrous for the Government to take over our Healthcare. If they are not responsible for our Personnel Safety they are not responsible for our Health.
