Scripture : Life :: Eyeglasses : Vision

Every summer I make a trip to the optometrist to reassess my eyes and every summer it is a humbling experience.  Many people are nervous about visiting the dentist, but I would rather have my teeth cleaned than my eyes checked any day.  Each time they pull up that letter chart, my fear of impending failure creeps in and I realize that my eyes have gotten just a little bit worse, again...

Then the magic happens.  The optometrist and I work through the different lenses to find the combination that brings the letters into focus for me.  Praise God!  Without my glasses the world is fuzzy and unsure, but with my glasses on I see things clearly, and I can make better decisions.  Without my glasses life is dangerous, with them, I am safer and more confident!

The same is true with God’s Word and God’s Spirit.  When I try to make it through the day without reading and thinking on God’s Word, I am more anxious and I make more mistakes.  But when I center myself through the lens of Scripture and look at the world with a heart that is full of the promises of God, I see beauty all around me.  I see solutions rather than problems and I see things to be thankful for rather than complaints.

“Open my eyes that I may see wonderful things in your law.”  Psalm 119:18

The Words of Scripture are our eyeglasses for life.  Put them on and life just gets better.
