Chris Gaddis Named OPS Athletic Director

Chris Gaddis has been named to the position of Owensboro Public Schools’ District Athletic Director.  He will fill the position from which Harley Trogdlen is retiring effective July 1.

Gaddis, a native of Owensboro, has spent 22 years as an employee in the district.   A 1984 graduate of Owensboro High School, he continued his education at Western Kentucky University, earning a B.S. degree and Teachers Certification in 1989.  He later obtained a Masters of Arts in Education degree in 1991, Rank I in Educational Leadership in 1997 and is currently pursuing a Doctoral degree in Educational Leadership at Western Kentucky University.

Chris began his teaching career at Foust Elementary School in 1990 and joined the faculty at Owensboro High School in 1993.  While at O.H.S. he became the state of Kentucky’s youngest high school Athletic Director and was later appointed as Administrative Assistant and Assistant Principal (1997-2002.)  In 2002, Chris took over the reins as Principal of Cravens Elementary School where he enjoyed that leadership role for eight years before joining the Owensboro Board of Education’s district staff as the Director of Instructional and Systems Support in 2010.

His duties will include supervision of all athletic events and programs in the district.  He will continue to serve as the district liaison to the Foundation for Excellence, Owensboro Independent Schools.

He and his wife, Cate, live in Owensboro and have two children, Walker (age 5) and Hampton (age 1).
