Atmos Energy Joins 811 Day National Campaign

With August 11 almost here, Atmos Energy hopes this date on the calendar, 8/11, will serve as a natural reminder for residents to call 811 prior to any digging project to have underground utility lines marked. This comes on the heels of a recent report which determined an underground utility line is damaged during digging projects every three minutes nationwide.

Highland Elementary Students to “Go for the Gold”

Fifth-grade students at Highland Elementary School will “go for the gold” this week with a creative Olympic game activity. 

In honor of the Olympic games taking place in London, and to represent Highland’s back-to-school theme, “All Things Patriotic,” each group of fifth-graders will receive a bag of mystery items with which to “create” an Olympic event. Students will use the “Productive Thinking and Planning” talent, which is part of the Talents Unlimited curriculum, to invent a game using the equipment provided in their bags.

Applications Accepted for OPD’s Citizens Academy

The Owensboro Police Department, community owned and operated since 1817,wants to give the citizens of Owensboro the opportunity to see how THEIR department operates on a day-to-day basis.

 The Department believes that by educating the community, they can foster better communications between the Owensboro Police Department and those they serve.

That is why they are currently accepting applications for the 2012 Citizen’s Police Academy.
