Maybe the best recent news regarding Kentucky Wildcat basketball is the emergence of sophomore Alex Poythress as a force in the paint.

The increasingly explosive power forward contributed 16 points--including 8 of 9 from the free-throw line--and 5 rebounds toward Kentucky's 68-51 win over Texas A&M. It was a year ago that the Aggies--one of the new kids on the SEC block--waltzed into Rupp Arena and waltzed out with the first conference victory by any SEC opponent on Kentucky's home floor in the John Calipari era.

On January 21st, history did not repeat itself.

While UK led the entire game, they were never more than 6 to 10 points ahead of A&M for 75% of the game. It was at the midway point of the second half that Kentucky turned it on.

The lead ballooned to 21 at one point while Poythress was continually appearing out of nowhere for a layup or a slam dunk.

As the Harrison twins continue to grow on the perimeter and Julius Randle learns to be more unselfish with the ball in the paint, Kentucky fans have every reason to hope for a deep run in March.
