10 Things Owensboro Residents are Thankful For

Mary had a little lamb and we BUTCHERED it! Most cities wouldn't dream of offering BBQed sheep but we have not only one but TWO internationally acclaimed and award-winning restaurants that serve mutton!

If it wasn't for the rich, delicious aroma of Ragu spaghetti sauce your nostrils would be tormented by the stench of the waste water treatment plant every time you cruise down the bypass. Those who live downwind are especially thankful!

Their milkshakes bring all their boys to the yard. And so do their burgers, their tots, their rings and their cherry-vanilla cokes.

Grab your cowboy boots, cowboy hats and Daisy dukes and your halter tops. Men, shirts optional... Big O Music Festival, ROMP and Friday After 5 - it's enough to to make Evansville jealous. And really, isn't that what we ultimately live for?

With distilleries, homegrown wineries, the nationally recognized bar at Miller House, Gambrinus, and the LUSH beer gardens full of Bubbas and Budweisers at every outdoor gathering we have, Owensboro knows how to pound back the booze. Why do you think Moon moved here?

If it wasn't for Catholic church cooking teams, like St. Pius X, Precious Blood, and Jerry Morris from St. Mary's of the Woods, there would be no International BBQ Festival Downtown. Without the International BBQ Festival, downtown Owensboro would only be known for the last public hanging in the US.

Local horror film-makers, ghost tours downtown, the annual zombie run, a team of paranormal investigators, a haunted community theater, and a seedy history, Owensboro makes Amityville, look like Holiday World.

With Frederica St. and J.R. Miller Blvd, you can get from one end of the city to the other, and see all it has to offer, in five minutes. And, to get to all the outreaching towns, just take the bypass (and be sure to sniff out Unilever!) Take that, Los Angeles! You sit on your Interstate 5.

Van Gough had to chop off an ear to get recognized. We have a world-class painter in our midst and we can see him perform pretty much whenever we want. Bonus, he's got both of his ears.

A state-of-the-art convention center, sparkling, playful fountains, a sprawling city park... it's really enough to make any city jealous. Especially a certain city across the river that is still working on getting a hotel to replace the Executive Inn. Just teasing, Evansville! Really!

Even though we don't really know what to call ourselves - "Owensboroans" or just "People from Owensboro" we always step up for charity and are always there to lend a helping hand. The people of this city and never hesistate to help a national charity, a local cause or the family right across the street. Here at WBKR, we are thankful to call Owensboro home. This is another example of why Owensboro is an All-American City! We love you, Owensboro!
